Southern Africa as the next emerging region?
May 18, 2018
I have almost 300 days of travel in a year, and I am well-travelled in almost every corner of the world. The African continent, however, still remains very much unexplored on my part. With the emerging destinations and increasing tourism trends in the Southern regions of the continent, as well as having read a lot about the culture, nature, and hospitality here, I made it a priority to put it on my map this year!
Over the last few months I have had the pleasure of exploring several African countries, such as Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Malawi, and Uganda. I have experienced safaris and big cities, I have tried to the local food and their big restaurant franchises, I have travelled on dust roads for hours and enjoyed Lake Malawi from a boat – and I have to admit that Southern Africa has blown my mind.
Working in the real estate, development, hospitality and travel business I am always open for new ideas and inspiration, and I am amazed by what I have seen. Firstly, these countries offer beautiful resorts and hotels which compete on the list of the best places I have stayed – most often to extremely high daily rates. Secondly, I am impressed how far ahead several businesses here are in terms of wild life protection and sustainable operations, which is here often seen as a natural part of any venture. Lastly, the hospitality, kindness and warmth of these countries are close to none. (I was even driven for two hours to my hotel when our rented car broke down!).
In the coming months, I will be following these countries very closely as I am extremely interested in following the growth and opportunities here.
