Green Goes Orange

The UN announced 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. With some fantastic new members in the team led by our Green Ambassador, we therefore collectively decided to make sure that this was the year we started to work on strategies for how to implement more sustainable and green initiatives within all our brands and departments. As we are now entering into 2018, and we are starting to see these initiatives being put into life.

Our project development team is aiming to get LEED certifications on all our future buildings, within the different levels available. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, and will further increase the value of all our buildings significantly. We also work to implement solar power options on most future endeavors - starting with our first test solar power panels in our Trend Resort.

Our hospitality division consisting of our hotels, resorts and restaurants across Thailand have initiated several key green strategies in the new year, starting with the rooms. Together with our residents and guests we are saving on laundry and electricity. Their commitment, however, extends much beyond this. The F&B team is planting their own organic gardens, and making local homemade seasonal jams. Their promotions are focused on seasonality, grounded in their aim to have 60% locally sourced products on the menu by 2019. Further, they will recycle packaging, have less printouts and ban plastic. 

Sustainability and local commitment are the key pillars of our new travel fleet, which will launch later this year. The team is building a network for travelers, with a focus on reducing our carbon footprint whist enjoying undiscovered corners of this world. The fleet will work to ensure that unethical activities and attractions are excluded, such as using animals and ethnic groups as tourist attractions. They will also work to elevate local tour agencies to ensure that more of the profit is left at the destinations.

We are by no means saying that we are perfect in our Group. Our green adventure has just started. We are, however, not afraid to have ambitious goals for where we want to be in the future and what we want to achieve - and we are all of the shared opinion that business in the future can only be done if it is taking the environment into consideration.
